Production

It is important for us to know the people who make our products. We first got in touch with our tailors 2016 through travel and friends. Today, our clothes are still made by the same tailors in Mumbai. The head of the small family tailor shop is our now good friend Naeem, who has become an integral part of Yahmo. It is important to us that all employees there receive more than a living wage and that they work in a safe and friendly working environment. We have been there a few times ourselves and had the opportunity to meet our tailors, but also to make sure that all labour standards are met. We talk to Naeem almost daily to discuss new products and product improvements, organise imports and keep up to date with current production.

Materials

When sourcing new materials we prioritise to work with suppliers we trust. As a small business we can't do everything at once, but we are constantly working on making our supply chain more transparent and environmentally friendly (minimising transport routes, establishing direct and long-lasting relationships with suppliers). It's an ongoing process.

Most of our products are made with Cupro and Tencel. Both materials are biodegradable and are environmentally-friendly. In addition, we also have our Upcycled collection, which re-uses leftover Indian sari fabrics that would otherwise be thrown away.

Cupro

Cupro (Bemberg) is made from remnants of the cotton industry. Many of our garments are made from this seemingly "waste". Our cupro fibres are produced by the Asahi Kasei company and is OEKO-TEX certified. This high-quality fabric has a silky-soft feel, is durable and environmentally friendly at the same time.

Tencel

Tencel (Lyocell) is made from the regrowing raw material wood with the special feature that the material cycle is closed during production. At the moment, we have several manufacturers producing our Tencel. We are currently looking for a manufacturer in India to reduce unnecessary long transport distances to our tailor. The material is breathable and biodegradable.

Sofa Fabrics

For our sofa collection we use fabrics supplied by a tiny upholstery shop in Mumbai, India. Our founders stumbled upon it at a fabric market when visiting in 2018. Since the fabrics are made for heavy-wear they are very durable and thus long-lasting.

After Sale

Sustainability and responsibility are also very important to us after the sale of our goods. That's why we plant a tree with Eden Project for every order.

When shipping our goods, we try to be as environmentally friendly as possible and therefore only use packaging materials that are either made of recycled cardboard or that are sustainable, such as grass paper. We do not use any plastic at all when shipping. Within Germany we use the environmentally friendly shipping company DHL GoGreen.

If an item of clothing from us does break, we always offer to repair the product and cover the cost of the repair as a first solution. In the case of irreparable damage, we take the items back and either sell them for a reduced price at a designer market or donate the clothes to a charity. All ordinary returns are placed back in our warehouse after inspection and sold a second time. We do not throw away any goods.
